What is the difference between a sand making machine and a crusher?
Crushers and sand making machines differ significantly in terms of function and application. These differences can be summarized in the following five aspects:
- Different Types of Equipment
- Different Application Fields
- Different Crushing Stages
- Different Feed Sizes
- Different Finished Product Sizes
Sand making machines, commonly known as vertical shaft impact crushers, are technically a type of crusher, but the size of the finished product differs greatly from that of regular crushers. There are many types of crushers, including jaw crushers, cone crushers, impact crushers, and mobile crushers.
Sand making machines use a "rock-on-rock" or "rock-on-steel" crushing principle and are suitable for medium and fine crushing of materials with varying hardness and brittleness. They are particularly used in producing sand for construction and road building.
Crushers, on the other hand, are mainly used for crushing medium-hard and brittle materials, such as granite, river pebbles, and limestone.
Crushers are typically used for primary crushing in a stone production line, while sand making machines are used in sand or aggregate production lines for secondary or tertiary crushing.
Crushers can handle larger feed sizes, generally between 1 to 2 meters, and are capable of directly crushing large stones extracted from mountains. In contrast, sand making machines have smaller feed size requirements, usually within 20–30 centimeters, and must adhere to strict feed size limits to avoid equipment damage.
Crushers are mainly used for breaking down material, with finished product sizes typically under 25 mm, suitable for further processing by sand making machines. Sand making machines, in turn, produce sand with particle sizes under 5 mm, and the screened final product meets the standards for construction sand.
In summary, although crushers and sand making machines differ greatly in function and application, both are equally important in the sand and gravel production process.
